T8016 Compact Horn subwoofer - preliminary information:

UPDATED Dimensions [mm]:
w 540.00
d 520.00
h 540.00

Output capacity:
110 - 109dB 20Hz/1m/2pi

Usable low frequency extension:
14Hz

Cabinet made in birch plywood.
Compact horn with 2 internal damping channels.
Stackable up to 4x units before you reach the ceiling gives flexibility for dimensioning for any spl capacity needs.
Full frequency range with usable extension well below 20Hz, combined with lively and powerful mid and upper bass reproduction due to choice of driver parameters and the horn loading.

External amplifier:
A502 2-channel DSP amplifier - capable of driving up to 4x T8016 subwoofer units, for highest output capacity bridged mode driving 1x T8016.

------
Basically a decent sized brick, not very elegant, but how can you make a subwoofer with square-box dimension look cute - well, you can't. It is rough, big enough to make its presence in the room.

The black matte finish may not be available, instead a veneered wood finish is likely.

Place 2 of these up front - one towards each corner, as close as possible to the front wall. If 2x units are not enough, you just add 2 more stacked on top, you can stack up to 4x units before reaching the ceiling in a typical domestic room.

One A502 DSP amplifier powers both T8016 units, or use 2 A502 amplifiers running one T8016 + one main front speaker from each amplifier.

This bass-system with 2x (or more..) T8016 + SA502 DSP amplifier can be used with any main speaker.

------
Stacking gives +6dB more output capacity across the whole frequency range for each doubling of T8016 units.

In addition to increased capacity, this stacking also changes how the subwoofers couple to the room, with will affect both frequency response and tactile feel. Having 2x units stacked you are close to a radiation pattern similar to the V110, and those 2x T8016 will have quite a bit more capacity.

------
This bass solution is superior both in terms of sound quality and feeling of powerful bass compared to any full-range speaker.

Being able to place the bass units close to boundaries up by the front wall greatly improves timing related problems due to elimination of the front wall reflection.

Calibration with DSP eq removes major bass coloration problems, and in most cases it will be possible to achieve a decent bass response without needing to do extensive acoustic treatment for bass frequencies.

Calibrating a bass-system requires paying attention to timing and tactile feel, it is not sufficient to just eq the frequency response. We can assist you in this process.

(obsolete pictures of early version removed)

2x T8016 stacked:

Obsolete picture removed. I will make a new one with the current version stacked.

Work in progress on the T8016, updated design, running simulations.

Nice.

The amplifier gets a new updated cabinet, simpler, and option for mounting amplifier on the T8016 cabinet.

Basically a decent sized brick, not very elegant, but how can you make a subwoofer with square-box dimension look cute - well, you actually, it turned out very nice. It is rough, big enough to make its presence in the room, brutal and nice.

The black matte finish will certainly not be available. Black birch wood with clear-coat or oiled, grey birch wood with clear-coat or oiled, various veneered wood with clear-coat.

Place 2 of these up front - one towards each corner, as close as possible to the front wall. If 2x units are not enough, you just add 2 more stacked on top, you can stack up to 4x units before reaching the ceiling in a typical domestic room.

Getting closer to the final version that will be built:

Bigger!

Grey finish:

Updated some images in previous posts.

This is the real thing. Real plywood, real driver with accordion surround, real huge port where addictive bass comes out.

From now, any changes will be small. Can you spot the differences of this last update?
